Police Officers Retirement System (PORS)

Service Retirement - Close to Eligibility

Things to Do

If you are within one to two years of retirement eligibility and plan to retire when you first become eligible, contact the Retirement Systems to request a benefit estimate. This will provide you with an estimated monthly retirement benefit that you can use for planning purposes.

Watch the retirement seminar videos in our Video Library or attend a regional retirement seminar close to you.

You may want to visit the Retirement Systems’ office in Columbia and speak with a retirement consultant. If you plan to do so, please bring proof of birth (a birth certificate if possible) for you and your beneficiaries. We will make digital copies of that information and add it to your member record. If you do not have the necessary proof of birth, now is a good time to obtain this information.

If you have service you can purchase and have not already done so, you may want to consider buying the service now. Find out more about purchasing service here.

Check your annual member statement carefully. If you think the service credit on your member statement is incorrect, request a service credit worksheet for your retirement account. Otherwise, your account will be audited at retirement.

Contact the Retirement Systems to obtain a retirement information packet that includes a retirement application or download the forms.
