Member (Employee) Training
Each fall, the Retirement Systems offers regional pre-retirement seminars at large auditoriums around the state. In addition to a presentation on the South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) and the Police Officers Retirement System (PORS), there are speakers from the Social Security Administration, the South Carolina Deferred Compensation Program, and the Employee Insurance Program.

The Retirement Systems sends covered employers a list of employees who are nearing retirement eligibility, whether by age or by years of service. Members are then invited to this event through their employers. The seminar is designed as an aid in retirement planning for those members closer to retirement eligibility, but many members find it helpful earlier in their careers.

Many employers also plan their own half-day or full-day pre-retirement seminars and invite Retirement Systems' staff, as well as representatives and speakers from other pertinent organizations, to talk about financial planning, investing, wills and trusts, etc.

Retirement Systems' staff also coordinate with employers to offer SCRS and PORS overview sessions on-site. Retirement Systems’ staff will come to your employer’s designated location and make a presentation designed to help members better understand how their SCRS or PORS retirement plan works.
