Considering Membership - Employees
Police Officers Retirement System
Your employer will let you know when you are hired if you qualify for membership in the Police Officers Retirement System (PORS). To join PORS, your employer must complete an Employer Certification of Police Officers Retirement System (PORS) Eligibility (Form 1107) and return it to the Retirement Systems with your completed and signed Retirement Plan Enrollment (Form 1100). The State Budget and Control Board, however, makes the final determination whether any person may become a PORS member.
If you do not qualify for PORS membership, you must become a member of the South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) or elect participation in the State Optional Retirement Program (State ORP).
Employees of local subdivisions of government are not eligible for State ORP participation.
