General Assembly Retirement System

All members of the South Carolina General Assembly must join the General Assembly Retirement System (GARS) upon taking office unless they are retired.

 

Membership is optional for General Assembly members who are receiving an annuity from the South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS), the Police Officers Retirement System (PORS), and/or GARS.
