Considering Membership - Employers

By law, all state agencies, public schools, and higher education institutions are covered employers. Local subdivisions of government within the state have the option of joining the Retirement Systems.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a covered employer and would like for the Retirement Systems to determine your entity’s eligibility, you may either contact the Retirement Systems or complete an Employer Eligibility Determination Request (Form 6500) and send it, along with the requested attachments, to the Retirement Systems. Our Legal Department staff will review your completed Form 6500 and the accompanying statute or ordinance creating your entity, articles of incorporation, and bylaws (if applicable).

Use our calculators to see what it would cost to purchase additional service credit, or to estimate your retirement benefit.
