The South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) was established July 1, 1945,
to provide retirement and other benefits to state employees, public school
employees, public higher education institution personnel, and employees of
participating cities, counties, and other local subdivisions of
government.
The
Police Officers Retirement System (PORS) was
established July 1, 1962, to provide retirement and other benefits to
police officers, firefighters, peace officers of certain state agencies,
probate judges, magistrates, and coroners.
The
General Assembly Retirement System (GARS) was
established January 1, 1966, to provide retirement and other benefits to
members of the South Carolina General Assembly.
The
Judges and Solicitors Retirement System (JSRS) was
established July 1, 1979, to provide retirement and other benefits to our
states justices, judges, and solicitors.
Effective January 1, 2006, the South
Carolina Retirement Systems assumed administration of the
National Guard
Retirement System (NGRS), a defined benefit pension plan established to
provide supplemental benefits to National Guard members who served in
South Carolina.
